This Week's Featured Newsletter Article:
"A Friend in Need..."
by
Chris Malta
A couple of nights ago, I was
contacted by a very good friend whom I haven't seen in a long time, and he
needed help.
This is a guy I practically grew up with. We spent
a great deal of time together in our teens, twenties and thirties. We did
everything together, always hung out in the same crowd, and have been best
friends for what seems like forever.
You know what I mean, right? There are maybe a
handful of friends in your life that you would do absolutely anything for,
without question. Someone you come to know, trust, and love like a brother or
sister, and that relationship never goes away, even after many years and
across great distances. This friend of mine is someone with a heart the size
of Texas, a sense of humor that has reduced me to tears of laughter so many
times that I could never count them, and a moral quality that you only find
rarely in the people you meet throughout your entire life. Through the more
than 30 years we've known each other, and the more than 1,200 miles that have
separated us for many years now, he is still like a brother to me. I would do
anything I could possibly do for him; all he needs to do is ask.
He emailed me the other night, and said, "I really
need your help, can you get in touch with me?"
Now, this man has never said that to me
before. He's always been completely self-reliant and very proud, and I have
never in all the time I've known him, heard or seen him say "I need your help"
to anyone. His email popped up at about 11:30 this past Friday night,
and when I saw it, I called him immediately.
It didn't take long for us to get to the problem
he was having, which is also out of character for him. He does not like to
"burden" other people with his problems, so when something's bothering him,
it's usually like pulling teeth to get him to admit it. This time, however, he
very quickly said, "Man, I'm really in financial trouble. I think I only have
about a few weeks before I completely 'crash and burn'. I'm going to lose
everything and end up living out of my leather coat; I won't even have the car
to live in!" And then he laughed, which is so like him. Always the sense of
humor, even when he's at his absolute darkest hour.
He's working full time, so it wasn't like he was
out of a job. He just has some heavy financial obligations that are getting
the better of him. I immediately asked him how bad it was, and how much I
could loan him to keep things afloat, but I realized the answer an instant
after I asked the question. He absolutely refused to take a cent from me, no
matter how many times I insisted.
Instead, he said "I need you to help me get
something going on the Internet so that I can start bringing in some money
right away".
Now, he has followed my career and my business
very closely over the years. We've talked about it many times on the phone,
and in person when I've gone back to New York to visit. He follows my
company's progress with great interest, and always asks about it. He knows
that we've helped literally tens of thousands of people to find a path to real
success in online business for free through learning about
ECommerce.
Having read some of my material over the years, he
also knows that I always tell people that it does not happen overnight.
Still, though, he was hoping that there was some secret formula I could give
him. Some hidden, arcane, insider knowledge I had that would help him
make money instantly. Even as I was repeating that caution to him, he asked me
several times if there was something I could tell him that would make an
online business work immediately, so that he could put money in his pocket
right away. That was also out of character for him, and I knew at that point
that he really was desperate.
It was just about heart-breaking to have to say to
him repeatedly. "It won't work that fast....it won't work that fast...it won't
work that fast...". I wanted so badly to help him, but I knew for a fact that
what he was so desperately hoping for was not going to happen that quickly, no
matter what I did, or what anybody else could do.
We came to an understanding that it was
possible for him to start building a real business at a very small
expense, and start bringing in some money within a few months. I showed
him our web site's Resource Center, and told him to start reading. He wrote me
back yesterday to say that he was working through the learning process, and
that he appreciated the "reality check".
I wasn't sure I should write this Article, because
I didn't want to violate a confidential issue between myself and my good
friend. However, I thought it was very important to write, because in a
minute it's going to illustrate a point that very much needs to be
illustrated. So, I wrote the article, but out of respect for my friend I
have been very careful not to mention even his first name, the details of his
financial problems, and have said nothing that could identify him to any of
our mutual friends and acquaintances. There were many people in that crowd we
both hung out in, and many of them are still good friends to this day. I am
confident that not a one of those mutual friends will figure out who I'm
talking about, unless he tells them.
So, to the point. If there was ever anyone in this
world that I would do anything I possibly could for, anytime,
it's the friend I talk about in this Article. I can't express to you in
words how badly I wanted to push a magic button somewhere and make everything
all right for him. While we were talking on the phone that night, I turned it
over and over in my mind, trying to think of some connection I had somewhere;
some string I could pull, some person I could talk to for him that would make
his decision to save his financial situation by starting an online business
easy for him. Every time I thought of something that would help, I
realized that the information I was thinking of was already in our web
site's Resource Center, in the Articles I have written over the years, in the
other ECommerce sites we recommend, in the Radio Show Archives we have, etc.,
etc., etc.
The point is that there is no magic button,
no easy program, no simple step by step method to start making
money immediately on the Internet. There are a lot of people out
there who will tell you that those things exist, and try to sell them
to you. Put very simply, they are liars, and they make me very angry in a
situation where they've fooled my friend, who is in desperate need, into
thinking that they might be for real. You see, he had been reading about a few
of those programs online, and I had to "talk him down off the ledge" the other
night because he was so desperate that he was considering wasting the little
money he had left on one of those "simple systems".
So, I don't care where you get your information;
whether you get it from us, or somewhere else. I will not turn my friend's
situation into a commercial for my business. What I want you to really, really
understand is that REAL SUCCESS in ANY business, be it an ECommerce business,
a retail Sporting Goods store in your local mall, or a tanning salon for
light-shelled sea turtles, DOES NOT COME OVERNIGHT, EVER.
It is a methodical learning process, not a
winning lottery ticket! If you do not spend the time to learn that process
(from the relatively few honest people online who really are telling you the
truth), then you will NOT succeed. You may make a few bucks a month, but it
won't be something you can support yourself or your family with.
I've been in this business for a very long time,
and myself and my partners are very successful in it and very knowledgeable
about it. It's what we do, every day, and it supports not only our families,
but the families of all our employees as well. How did we do that? We
learned it, carefully and methodically, over time.
You can do the same. The only thing you need to
remember is that you need to take your time and learn. Don't believe
those "instant success" jokers for even a minute.
I'm telling you for a fact that if a Magic
ECommerce Success Button existed anywhere, I would have pushed it the
other night for my friend.
